The team visited Lateral B, Phase I of Basey IP in Barangay Old San Agustin, Sitio Manilaay, Basey, Samar. Phase I of Basey IP aims to generate and serve 1,500 hectares service area. The project now irrigates 607 hectares to 1,058 farmer beneficiaries. The direct recipient of the project are the six (6) Irrigators Associations (IAs)—Inuntan IA, Serum-Panogmonon United IA, Golden River West IA, Inc., Lamrag Han Paglaum IA, Inc., Paglaum Han Parag Uma IA, Inc., and Bugasan-Mabini IA, Inc. (only IA with ongoing contract negotiation for Irrigation Management Transfer under Phase I).

Also, the team visited the newly completed 56 meters of elevated flume which completes the 500 meters, targeted for Phase II of Basey IP in Barangay Villa Aurora, Basey, Samar. Phase II of Basey IP aims to generate 1,500 hectares service area. The project has already 149 farmer beneficiaries under the Buena Villa IA, Inc., but IMT contract has to be negotiated. A test run will be conducted to initially operate in CY 2021 second cropping season.

The Basey IP aims to generate a total of 3,000 hectares service area. The management also encourage farmers to maximize the area through crop diversification. If realized, the project will help farmers’ livelihood. Thus, alleviating the quality of life of Baseynon and deliberately closing the gap of irrigation development for Western Samar.

The Acting Regional Manager Ruby C. Tuan, Jr.; Engineering and Operation Division (EOD) Manager Norma M. Monisit; and Interim Eastern-Western Samar IMO Acting Manager Rizalina B. Gallarde and staff, assisted in the conducted field visit.
