NIA REGION VIII SIGNS MOA FOR THE RAINFALL AND STORMWATER RUNOFF MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY FOR TROPICAL CLIMATE PROJECT (Rains-TECH)

De La Salle University, Department of Science and Technology – Regional Office VIII, Provincial Local Government Unit, Local Government Unit of Palo, Leyte and five (5) National Agencies including the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Regional Office VIII, Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 8 , Department of Natural and Environment Resources (DENR) Region 8, Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 8, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Tacloban Weather Station (PAGASA-TWS) together with Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) and Philippine Science High School – Eastern Visayas Campus (PSHS-EVC) signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the Rainfall and Stormwater Runoff Management Technology for Tropical Climate Project (RainS-TECH) on June 28, 2024 at Palo, Leyte Municipal Hall.

The RainS-TECH project’s main objective is to develop innovative system, practices, technologies and techniques that utilize and mimic the natural processes for the management of rainfall and stormwater runoff in post developed tropical watershed in order to conserve and protect watersheds, water resources, environment and aquatic habitat, to enhance ecosystem services (ES) and to address land use change and climate change impacts by means of empirical and modeling approaches towards building sustainable and resilient communities.

This collaborative effort aims to inspire the community to strive for a sustainable development, technological advancement and innovation to address climate change impacts in the Province of Leyte.
