NSIMO Turnover the Hibatwan IA Model Farm

The Northern Samar Irrigation Management Office spearheaded the turnover of the Hibatwan Irrigators Association Model Farm on January 24, 2023 held at Palapag Gymnasium, Palapag, Northern Samar.

The IA Model Farm project was funded under Irrigation Management Transfer Support Services (IMTSS) and was granted to the Hibatwan Farmers Irrigators Association as an appreciation for being hailed as an Outstanding Irrigators Association under CARP category in the Regional Level and was nominated to the National Level.

The purpose of the model farm is to encourage farmers to venture into diversified cropping and to aid and sustain agricultural productivity in the province and in the country as a whole. Prior to the turnover of the project, Hibatwan farmers completed the Season Long Farmer’s Field School (FFS) for Vegetable Production from July 7, 2023 to October 26, 2023 with the Municipal Agriculture Technicians in Palapag as resource speakers. The FFS prepares the IA to eventually take over the operation of the model farm, providing them with substantial knowledge on the intricacies of vegetable production.

The ceremony was graced by Ms. Lorna Villagonzalo, Community Development Officer of NIA Central Office; Ms. Daisy G. Cachuela, Senior Irrigators Development Officer of NIA Region VIII; and Engr. Cesar Echano, Assistant IMO Manager of NSIMO. Likewise, present were Hon. Pepito A. Laoreno, Sangguniang Bayan Chair on the Committee on Agriculture of Palapag; Mr. Leonardo A. Esteria, Municipal Agriculture Officer and Engr. Ma. Christina Ladeza, representative of the Provincial Agriculture Office.

Meanwhile, Mr. Alfredo B. Sereguine, IA President of Hibatwan FIA, Inc. heartily accepted the challenge in manning and overseeing the operation and maintenance of the model farm. In his message he emphasized the importance of cooperation among the association members and officers, and the relevance and benefits they would get in improving and advancing their IA Model farm management.

This significant activity is another testament and a proof of NIA’s unwavering dedication and commitment to improve the agricultural productivity and increase farmer’s income of the province for the greater benefit of the community, echoing the spirit of convergence and collaboration encapsulated in the principle of hashtags “NIAGear UP”, “bayaNIAn” and “tuloy ang daloy” of the agency.
