National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VIII for the Rice Contract Farming Program

In pursuit of realizing the goal of the Administration to uplift the lives of the Filipino Famers and Rice Sufficiency, today, August 14, 2024 12 Irrigators Associations Presidents received the 1st tranche cash support from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VIII for the Rice Contract Farming Program. A total of P 30.1 million pesos were distributed to aid the 1, 756 farmer-beneficiaries of Bito and Binahaan-Tibak River Irrigation System for the labor cost and equipment rental for the land preparation and crop maintenance for this year’s 3rd cropping season.

NIA Region VIII Regional Manager, Engr. Jaime C. De Jesus, NIA Central Office Institutional Development Division Manager, Martin T. Tacloban and Biliran-Leyte del Norte Leyte del Sur IMO Manager, Engr. Conrado M. Samson spearheaded the distribution of cash support.

It was only last May 24, 2024 when the Memorandum of Agreement was sealed between the 12 IAs and NIA. This program, through the initiative of NIA Administrator Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen aims to provide assistance to the farmers from land preparation up to the sale of their palay produce ensuring profitability and rice sufficiency, aiming towards achieving P29.00 pesos per kilo of rice.
