Geodetic engineers and survey teams from various National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Irrigation Management Offices (IMOs) in Region 8 underwent a skills-enhancing training workshop titled "Reimagining Fieldworks: Ensuring Efficiency of Survey Teams Through Effective Surveying Practices" from May 22 to 25 at the NIA Regional Office Training Center, Tacloban City.
On May 24, 2024, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VIII, led by Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jaime C. De Jesus together with 12 Irrigators Associations (IAs) of Bito and Tibak River Irrigation Systems under the Biliran-Leyte del Norte-Leyte del Sur Irrigation Management Office (BLNLSIMO) signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Rice Contract Farming in Region VIII at Brgy. Malitbogay, Javier, Leyte.
In support to the thrust for convergence initiatives of NIA Administrator Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen, the NIA Regional Office VIII, headed by its Acting Regional Manager Engr. Jaime C. De Jesus, successfully sealed EPAHP Marketing Agreement and Partnership with the National Food Authority (NFA) Northern Samar which resulted in the increase of palay sales and buffer stock.
The Flormina SIP and Gebulwangan SIP located in Brgy. San Isidro, Mondragon and Brgy. Gebulwangan, Catarman, Northern Samar, was turned over to its farmer beneficiaries covering 105- and 50-hectares service area, respectively.
These solar powered pump irrigation systems, are modernized irrigation systems that is valuable in boosting agricultural productivity. A cost-saving, energy-efficient and environmental friendly agricultural technology providing an access to a more reliable water supply benefiting 35 farmers of Gebulwangan Irrigators Association (IA), Inc. and 35 farmer beneficiaries of Quinay-Mondragon IA.
May 13, 2024, The Department of Science and Technology together with the Provincial Government and other stakeholders, including the National Irrigation Administration, embarks on a significant milestone with the commencement of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Leyte Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Development Plan for the years 2024-2026 at the Leyte Capitol Complex, Palo, Leyte.
Three (3) Materials Testing and Quality Control laboratories of the National Irrigation Administration Region VIII are now DULY ACCREDITED by the Department of Public Works and Highways to undertake materials testing (Quality Test of Hardened Concrete) for government infrastructure projects.
These are located at Brgy. Dalakit, Northern Samar Irrigation Management Office, Basey Irrigation System Satellite Office, Basey, Samar, and at NIA Regional Office VIII Marasbaras, Tacloban City.
Since its launching in 2023, the National Irrigation Administration Region VIII continues the conduct of Kadiwa Sa NIA. This program aims to support and provide the public accessible and affordable quality agricultural crops at the same time, help increase the farmer’s livelihood income by providing an avenue to market their produce directly to the consumers.
The Northern Samar Irrigation Management Office held its 4th Kadiwa Sa NIA at Brgy. Dalakit, Catarman, Northern Samar which was actively participated by farmers from various Irrigators Associations in the province.

The National Irrigation Administration continues to implement its Gulayan sa Canal initiative that aims to aid in canal management and help enhance and increase agricultural productivity for its beneficiaries. This initiative further aims to encourage farmers to cultivate vegetables along identified irrigation canal embankments providing local farmers fresh farm produce and an opportunity for additional income.
