Everybody remembers the wrath of super typhoon Yolanda which hit Leyte and Samar on November 8, 2013. In history, it was the most powerful and deadliest super typhoon ever recorded. It was indeed a remarkable disastrous event in the world that no one could ever imagine that it ended thousands of lives, left people homeless, mourning and hungry. Millions of properties were lost including their main source of livelihood.
NIA Regional Office 8—The newly restored Hiluctogan-Canlampay Communal Irrigation System (CIS), funded by the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC) was inaugurated and turned-over to the Hiluctogan Canlampay Utap Farmers Irrigators Association (HICAUFIA) on February 21, 2019. This project, amounting to P8,000,000.00, will irrigate 120 hectares of farmlands in Brgy. Canlampay, Carigara, Leyte, benefitting seventy-five (75) farmers.

THE NIA 8 TRAINING CENTER aims for the enrichment of learning and knowledge not only for its officials and employees but also for its partners in irrigation development—the farmers and other stakeholders. Thus, a three-storey and fully-air-conditioned training center was constructed within the NIA Region 8 compound in Marasbaras, Tacloban City, under the leadership of the former NIA 8 Regional Manager, Engr. Romeo G. Quiza. It was inaugurated on July 7, 2017 during the conference of the Association of Regional Directors and Operations Managers (ARDOMA) held at the said building. The total floor area is around 330 sq. meters, equipped with the following facilities:
National Irrigation Administration, Quezon City – The Senate Committee on Finance approved the proposed National Expenditure Program for the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in the amount of P36.36 billion in 2017. Senators Cynthia Villar, Miguel Zubiri, Francis Pangilinan, and Loren Legarda unanimously approved the NIA 2017 proposed budget.
